About Animation Industry

How Does Animation Work?

A simple theory known as persistence of vision offers an explanation. The Greek astronomer Ptolemy discovered this principle back in 130 AD. If images are flashed before the eye at a speed of at least ten frames per second, the brain thinks it is seeing a single moving image. The number of Frames Per Second (or FPS) directly correlates to how smooth the movement appears. If the frame rate is too slow, the motion will look awkward and jerky. If the frame rate is too high, the motion will blur.

How Indian animation industry can be a star

Toonz Animation India is rated as the number one animation studio in Asia. Situated at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, the studio can boasts of many an achievement.

P Jayakumar, chief executive officer, Toonz Animation India, in an exclusive interview, talks about the studio and its various prestigious projects:

Toonz Animation studio in Kerala

Toonz Animation was established in 1999, at Technopark, Trivandrum, by our Geneva-based promoters.

The decision to set up the animation studio in Kerala stemmed from the fact that Kerala has always been known for its rich and colorful tradition and enviable art forms. We felt that the highly literate, English-speaking manpower in Kerala would be able to skillfully craft out the world-class animation standards required from our clients.

Also Technopark at that time was one of the best incubation units for the IT and ITeS sectors in India.

Later, in 2006, we undertook major restructuring to put under one umbrella our varied interests in the areas of animation, media education, licensing and merchandising, digital and gaming ventures and also media-related infrastructure development. This took shape in the form of Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd, Singapore, which is now our parent company.
